Jack McErlean Named PCA-Chicago Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Finalist

Jack eJack McErlean, a member of the Providence Catholic High School hockey team, has been named a Finalist for Positive Coaching Alliance-Chicago’s 5th Annual Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship. McErlean will be honored with 30 other local high school student-athletes for their accomplishments both on and off the field/ice during the Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship and Awards Dinner Wednesday, November 12, at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. At this prestigious event $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to 10 of the finalists who best exemplify PCA’s Triple-Impact Competitor model:

  • Personal Mastery – Making oneself better
  • Leadership – Making one’s teammates better
  • Honoring the Game – Making the game better

Join the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois in congratulating Jack McErlean; AHAI is very proud to have a high school hockey player among the finalists!

Additionally, PCA will recognize Stan Bowman with the Excellence in Sports Leadership Award for his accomplishments as Vice President/General Manager of the Chicago Blackhawks. Last year, Mark Murphy, President/CEO of the Green Bay Packers received the honor.

“When it comes to recognizing excellence in sports leadership in Chicago, Stan is an obvious choice,” said Jason Sacks, Executive Director for PCA-Chicago. “His leadership has helped the Blackhawks win two Stanley Cup championships in a four year span, as well as helping to establish the Blackhawks as a model organization in the NHL. Highlighting Stan as a leader in the Chicago community will be a great example, and a great thrill, for the high school student-athletes we will be recognizing that evening.”

PCA-Chicago will also recognize representatives from the Jackie Robinson West Little League with the Honor the Game Award, highlighting the team’s success in this year’s Little League World Series.

“PCA’s definition of sportsmanship is what we call ‘Honoring the Game’, where you show respect for the rules, your opponents, the officials, your teammates and yourself,” said Sacks. “JRWLL not only won the US Championship at the Little League World Series, they were an unbelievable example of how a team can and should Honor the Game.”

About Positive Coaching Alliance

Since its founding within the Stanford University Athletic Department in 1998, Positive Coaching Alliance has helped develop “Better Athletes, Better People” primarily through live group workshops, online courses and books by PCA Founder Jim Thompson for youth and high school sports coaches, parents, student-athletes and school/organizational leaders.

In partnership with nearly 2,000 schools and youth sports organizations nationwide, PCA has conducted more than 13,000 live group workshops and impacted more than 5 million youth. PCA workshops and courses strive to transform high school and youth sports into a Development Zone where the goal is to develop Better Athletes, Better People and the following become the prevailing models in youth and high school sports:

  • The Double-Goal Coach®, who strives to win while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports
  • The Second-Goal Parent®, who concentrates on life lessons, while letting coaches and athletes focus on competing
  • The Triple-Impact Competitor®, who strives to impact sport on three levels by improving oneself, teammates and the game as a whole.

PCA has the support of elite coaches and athletes on a National Advisory Board, including National Spokesperson and 11-time NBA Champion Coach Phil Jackson. Locally, Chicago Bears Head Coach Marc Trestman, Chicago Bulls and White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, Northwestern University Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald and Head Basketball Coach Chris Collins serve on PCA’s National Advisory Board.
