The Illinois Hockey community was saddened by the passing of the Chargers Midget NIHL Coach Gregg Lee. Micki Crawford, Captain of the Admirals NIHL Bantam Bronze team organized a beautiful tribute to Coach Lee prior to the Admirals vs. Chargers game on Saturday, November 15, 2014.
Dear Chargers team,
My name is Micki Crawford and I am the Captain of the Admirals NIHL Bantam bronze team. I just learned of the sudden passing of Coach Lee. I wanted to tell you that this weighs heavily on my heart, for both the family and for your club. I wanted to offer my own, my teams, and my clubs thoughts and prayers for your sudden loss. I know that even though our clubs wear different jerseys, practice in different rinks and live far from each other, it doesn’t change that we are a very close family. We are a hockey family who lean on each other to make ourselves better players and to help drive one another to be the best we can be, and this is why hockey is the greatest game in the world. I, my team and my club would like to invite you to join us in honoring the passing of Coach Lee. We would like to have a moment of silence before the game this Saturday night. After warm ups, we would like to line our blue line with our gloves and your team do the same at your blue line then have your team meet our team at center ice with your sticks raised high as we will meet in the circle bow our heads and observe the moment of silence. We also ask your coaches to join us at center ice and for all your families and ours to stand and help honor Coach Lee. I know that this is a tough time for all of your team members and families just please know that we are thinking of the Lee family and your club.
With deepest sympathy,
Micki Crawford and the Admirals Hockey club
