On December 28, USA Hockey and AHAI will take over the United Center for the Mid-Season Mite Cross-Ice Classic Tournament. AHAI Mite 8U teams will have the opportunity to participate in a cross-ice tournament that will include a minimum of 3 games, a championship, and lots of giveaways, including t-shirts and awards for the winners to name just a few. Participating teams will also get to watch a Chicago Blackhawks practice right in the middle of the tournament!
The United Center ice will be transformed into three ice surfaces with teams competing in three divisions: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The concourse will be hopping; concession stands will be open and lots of activities available between games.
Due to the amount of United Center ice secured, there will be a limit of 6 teams at each level. This event is for 8U only (7 and 8 year olds) and teams that are registered with AHAI/USA hockey. Teams can register by sending an email to miteADM@ahai2.org. Include in that email the club name, team name, level at which team currently plays, a contact person and their name and email. Clearly indicate if the team is in a league and what level they play at in that league. The cost is $50 per player and teams will consist of 12 skaters and a goalie.
AHAI and the Blackhawks will review all applications and create 3 divisions of equally skilled players; Gold, Silver, and Bronze. We will also try and be sure that as many clubs as we can are represented. We expect that the competition at each level will be strong and our goal is to make the Mid-Season Mite Cross-Ice Classic a great experience for all the players. We realize all teams cannot participate in this event, with that in mind we will work on future events where we can incorporate other teams and skill levels.
If part of your team is not available due to the holidays, you can create a tournament team from within your organization. Details will be sent to each AHAI mite 8U team that is accepted into the tournament.
This promises to be a “can’t miss event”! With the support of USA Hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks, there is no doubt it will be a great day of hockey at the United Center.
