AHAI would like to personally thank the Wirtz Family and the Chicago Blackhawks for hosting the Illinois State High School Championships at the United Center for the past 28 years.
The games started on the old Chicago Stadium ice until they moved over to the United Center when it opened in 1994. Under the leadership of William Wirtz, Sr. and more recently Rocky Wirtz, the games have added an unprecedented level of excitement for those who are lucky enough to play on this special day.
This year was no exception. The courtesy and professionalism demonstrated by everyone on the Blackhawks and United Center staff is truly remarkable and always appreciated by all. The experience of this special day for these players is something that each will remember forever.
As we plan ahead, AHAI is looking forward to continuing this longest standing youth/professional relationship in all of sports. Again we thank the entire Blackhawks organization for all they have done and continue to do to promote youth hockey and making it available for everyBODY.
