Pittsburgh Holds on for 4-3 Win against Illinois

llinois tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but Pittsburgh held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Brian Dee put Pittsburgh up 4-1 in the third period, but Illinois pulled to within one on Adam Czarnecki‘s tally 15:02 into the third period.

Pittsburgh was helped by Connor Quinn, who grabbed one goal. Quinn scored 3:08 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pittsburgh. Dee provided the assist. Pittsburgh additionally got points from Dee, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Pittsburgh also had goals scored by Alexander Crilley and Thomas Kimmick, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Pittsburgh were Daniel Bostedo, Austin Martz, and Christian Miller, who each chipped in one.

Illinois was held below its usual level of production. Illinois averages 5.7 goals per game. Illinois’ defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Illinois is averaging 1.5 goal against for the season.

Illinois was led by Alex Merritt, who finished with one goal and one assist. Merritt scored 4:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Illinois. Jake Cimarusti picked up the assist. Illinois also got a goal from Jack Dolby as well. In addition, Illinois received assists from Christopher Zhang, who had one.

Pittsburgh’s William Lowe stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Pittsburgh incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jack Junge rejected 19 shots on goal for Illinois. Illinois incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
