Sjoukje Brown Named New Central District Referee-in-Chief

Dear Fellow Official:

As you know, Bob Cunningham was the Central District Referee-in-Chief for many years. Bob represented the District (which includes Illinois) extremely well over the course of his tenure and we were fortunate to have him during that time and in that capacity.

Because of Bob’s tireless efforts and accomplishments while District RIC, filling the Central District Referee-in-Chief position presented quite a challenge to the District.

I am very pleased to announce that the District has identified a person who not only possesses the skill sets necessary to fill the District RIC position but also someone who has consistently exhibited tireless efforts to improve the officiating community and work for the officials.

Please join me in welcoming the new Central District Referee-in-Chief, our very own Sjoukje Brown.

Michael Barrett, Illinois Referee-in-Chief & Supervisor of Officials

Introductory Letter from Sjoukje Brown, Central District’s New Referee-in-Chief

Hello Fellow Officials:

sbrown IHHFI wanted to take a second to introduce myself to those of you I don’t know, and say hello to those of you I do know. As you may have heard, I am the new Central District Referee-in-Chief. I have been an official since 1987 (yep, I’m that old), and have worked with many of you either on the ice or in an off-ice capacity. For those of you who are unfamiliar with me, I worked as a linesman in the USHL and in the Men’s CCHA. I also worked as a referee in the Women’s WCHA and as a linesman for the IIHF. I was an IHOA Board member (Seminar Coordinator) and AHAI Board member (Girls’ Chair). Though girls’ hockey was fun, my passion and foremost love in hockey is officiating. I am humbled and honored to be able to serve in this capacity and to work with all of you.

I know that you all have relationships with Bob Cunningham, and I want you to know that Bob and I have known each other since 1990. We have a great working relationship based on mutual respect and shared philosophies. Bob and I have had MANY conversations about this new role for me, and I want to assure you that Bob will continue to be involved in the Central District Officiating Program. He and I look forward to collaborating to continue pushing the Central District to the forefront of officiating.

I am looking forward to working with all of you.

Sjoukje Brown, Central District Referee-in-Chief
