The Mini One on One Tournament was recently conducted at the United Center on Saturday, December 19, 2015, and we would like to congratulate the winning team of Jiri Duda and Colin Carr from the Admirals Hockey Club.
All youth organizations were invited to participate by sending one team (one goalkeeper and one shooter) from their Squirt age players. It was left up to each organization as to the method of determining who would represent their association/club, but it was suggested some type of competition be held to determine who would represent them at the Mini One on One competition at the United Center. Fourteen organizations took advantage of this terrific opportunity — Admirals, Blackbirds, Coyotes, Flyers, Kings, Knights, Leafs, Northern Express, Panthers, River Dogs, Stallions, Stars, Vikings, and Wilmette.
The event consisted of each shooter taking three shots against their opposing team’s goalkeeper and moving through a double elimination bracket system with the winner being the last team standing.
The winners, Jiri and Colin, of the contest will move on to compete and represent the Chicago Blackhawks at the 2016 NHL All Star game in Nashville (Jan 29-31, 2016). The winning team (winning shooter and winning goalie from the same organization) will each receive free airfare, free hotel and free tickets to the All Star game for two (2) people — one player and one parent and one goalkeeper and one parent.
According to Jim Smith, president of USA Hockey, who assisted the Blackhawks staff of Spencer Montgomery and Annie Camins conduct the event, “This was a fantastic opportunity for our young players to showcase their skills and at the same time have a ton of fun doing it. I was really happy to see such great skills demonstrated on the part of all of the shooters and the goalkeepers who participated.”
We would like to congratulate all of those who participated and wish Jiri and Colin good luck as they compete for the National Mini One on One title in the national competition during the All Star game celebration in Nashville, Tennessee at the end of January.
