By Sue Tompkins, Team Manager, Northwest Chargers Midget Major Central States
The Northwest Chargers (NWC) Midget Major Central States players and parents, along with the Chicago Cougars Junior Hockey Team, showed their support for the Hornets Sled Hockey and Chicago Blackhawks Warrior Hockey teams by raising $10,380 on Sunday, January 31, 2016. All the fans that came to support these great causes were treated to games by both the Chargers and Cougars vs. the Hornets, as well as the Cougars vs The Warriors.
Coach Mike Tompkins believes strongly that his players should give back and provides opportunities for this to happen. He has been involved for years in raising funds for the Hornets Sled team. It was a privilege to add such a great cause as the Blackhawks Warriors. Coach Tompkins and Lauren Carney, a Chargers parent, spent many weeks collecting donations from local businesses, sports teams and, in Coach Tompkins case, former teammates and players. The NWC Midget Major Central States families volunteered their time and donated all of the concessions, with 100% of sales going to the Hornets and Blackhawks Warriors. The day would not have been such a great success without them.
A special thanks to John Schwarz and the Chicago Cougars, for their support and participation in the day. The USPHL (the league that the Chicago Cougars play in) sent their media people from the East Coast to cover the event which was featured on the Dan K show.
Thanks to all for their support in making this event our most successful to date!
