Holy Cross Men’s Hockey Names 2016-17 Captains; Includes Orland Park’s Mike Barrett

Michael Barrett CaptainWORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey program has named junior Brett Mulcahy (Kelowna, British Columbia) captain, and senior Mike Barrett (Orland Park, Ill.) and junior Tommy Muratore (Mendham, N.J.) assistant captains for the 2016-2017 season.

“We are pleased to announce Brett, Mike and Tommy as our captains for the 2016-2017 season,” said head coach David Berard. “They represent the core values of our program; commitment, accountability, discipline and toughness. They lead by example. They are driven to win. They set the emotional tone for our team. Most importantly, they are dedicated to being great teammates. We look forward to the start of the 2016-2017 season.”

Mulcahy appeared in all 36 games this past season, tallying eight goals and nine assists for 17 points. He was named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week once this season. He earned the team’s Glenn “Spike” Crane Memorial Award which is given to the player who excels most in the little things and leads his teammates by example. Mulcahy has played in 66 career games with eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points.

Barrett appeared in all 36 games this past season, posting 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points. He led the team in power-play goals with seven. For his career he has played in 111 games and has posted 33 goals and 39 assists for 72 points. As a sophomore he led the team in assists and points with 18 assists and 26 points.

Muratore played in all 36 games this past season, posting one goal and 12 assists for 13 points. He was a member of a defensive core that led Atlantic Hockey with 2.11 goals allowed per game. For his career he has appeared in 71 games with one goal and 14 assists for 15 points.

Holy Cross finished 18-13-5 this past season and posted a 16-7-5 record in conference action. The Crusaders’ 16 conference victories were the most since the 2005-2006 season. The Crusaders posted their best finish in Atlantic Hockey since 2005-2006. Holy Cross led the league with 2.11 goals allowed per game in conference games.
