PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women’s ice hockey team announced their list of captains for the 2016-17 season this week, which include seniors Taryn Harris, Kayley Romano, Lindsay Diot, and junior Maeve O’Brien.
Harris and Romano will serve as the team’s captains, while Diot and O’Brien will serve as alternate captains. The group of captains combined for nine goals and 19 assists a year ago.
Harris recorded a career-high four goals last season, giving her nine for her career. In 71 career games she has recorded 16 points on 131 shots from the defensive line. Alongside her on the backline is O’Brien. The junior has recorded 12 points in 49 career games while serving as a lockdown defender and leader in the defensive end for the Valiants. Also playing on the defensive end is Lindsay Diot, who has recorded three goals and seven assists in 64 career games with the Valiants. On the offensive end, Romano has racked up 17 points in 75 career games, scoring five goals and adding 12 assists, including two in a victory over Nichols College last season.
The Valiants will kick off the 2016-17 campaign on Friday, November 4 inside the friendly confines of Playland Ice Casino in Rye, N.Y. Manhattanville will host Castleton at 7:00 pm before hosting Norwich on Saturday for Alumni Day at 3:00 pm.
2015-16: Appeared in all 26 games as one of the top defenders for the Valiants in her sophomore season … made her season debut and tallied an assist against Nichols (11/6) … recorded four shots against UMass Boston (11/14) … picked up her second assist of the year against Casleton (11/20) … registered a season-high six shots against Finlandia (1/9) … tallied an assist in back-to-back games against Southern Maine (1/15) and New England (1/16) … picked up her fifth assist against Nichols (1/30) … scored her first goal of the season and also recorded an assist against New England College (2/12).
2014-15: Appeared in 24 games for the Valiants during her freshman season … recorded her first shot against Norwich (11/22) … registered her first career collegiate goal, assist and multi-point game in 2-2 tie with Amherst (12/6) … became an integral part of the Valiants power play unit as the season progressed … assisted on a power play goal in a 3-1 victory over Southern Maine (1/16) … assisted on the game-tying goal in a 4-3 win over Connecticut College (1/20) … earned her fourth assist on the power-play, game-winning goal against Nichols (1/31) … finished the season with 1 goal and 4 assists.
High School: A 2014 graduate of Loyola Academy … O’Brien played hockey for the Loyola Ramblers… was selected the Illinois All-Star Team in 2013 … was also a Loyola Scholar during her senior year of high school.
Personal: Daughter of Thomas and Ann O’Brien … has two brothers, Thomas and Brendan … a communications major and marketing minor at Manhattanville.
