Metro Girls Update: Competitive Play & More Goodwill from Around the League

By Pam Flores

Action Update

We are about mid-way through the tiering round of the Metro Girls High School season and all the girl’s teams are playing hard to secure a spot in the Scholastic or Founders division. Glenbrook South High School is currently in first place with an 8-0 record. Evanston is currently in the second spot at 5-2, followed by Loyola Academy at 5-2 and New Trier Varsity at 5-2. The competition among the teams has been fierce but friendly! Check out the variety of action shots from games around the league!

Community Involvement

There is more good work to report on from our girls’ teams helping support the community.

Glenbrook Girls Helps Spread love of the Game

The Glenbrook girls teamed up with the Glenbrook North High School boys team and the Northbrook Bluehawks Bantam team and helped out on the ice at Northbrook’s Try Hockey for Free Day.  The event was held on Saturday, November 12.  The girls helped approximately 40 boys and girls practice skating and get a taste of hockey.

New Trier Quad Header Winter Coat Drive

one-warm-coat-logoIn connection with the One Warm Coat organization, New Trier Hockey held a winter coat drive at the November 19th Quad-Header. They accepted donations of gently used winter coats/jackets at the Centennial Ice Rinks in Wilmette that were given to families someone in need.  The coats were donated to Connections for the Homeless, a non-profit organization based in Evanston that helps individuals and families that are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

Fenwick’s Goal: Shoot Down Alzheimer’s

The Fenwick girls’ ice hockey held their fundraiser to support research to combat Alzheimer’s disease on November 20 when they faced off against Lake Forest High School.  Big thanks to the Vikings Hockey Organization, Glenbrook High School and AHAI for their support of donations, and to Lake Forest High School who came out to play decked in purple in support of the effort.  The Oak Leaves published a touching story on the event. The event was a huge success – a final tally and photos to come.

Keep up all the good work ladies!
