Plainfield High School Hockey Association (PHSHA) has a very big and emotional weekend of volunteering and community service coming up this weekend. The skaters will be volunteering at numerous charitable events, they are as follows:
On Saturday, Dec. 17th, Plainfield High School Hockey will be volunteering for Wreaths Across America by placing wreaths on veteran gravestones at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. The Ceremony begins at 11am followed by the wreath placement. We also collected money to donate to purchase some of the wreaths being placed. What better way to honor & show respect for these brave men & women than to give of yourself and your time.
On the morning of Sunday, December 18th PHSHA skaters & families will be volunteering at Morningstar Mission loading hundreds of bags of Christmas presents for needy families onto trucks for distribution. Last year we loaded over 1500 Hefty bags filled with presents, clothes and necessities onto semi-trailers to be given out during Morningstar Mission’s Stars of Hope campaign.
PHSHA is also currently collecting unwrapped toy donations for the Toys for Tots. The donations can be dropped off at Canlan Ice Arena in Romeoville in one of the donation boxes in the lobby. Any toys collected will be presented to the U.S. Marines during our annual Toys for Tots game. There will be an on-ice presentation of the toys to the Marines immediately prior to our game against Lincoln-Way this Sunday, December 18th at the Darien Sportsplex in Darien, IL. Puck drops at 6:30pm. Everyone is invited!
The skaters and their families are very proud of the community service events that they do each season – not because we have to, not for the recognition, but because they truly enjoy it and it’s a way for them to feel connected to their community and to give back. The PHSHA skaters are truly great kids who are doing great things!
