UNION LAKE, Mich. – (December 2, 2016) – The American Collegiate Hockey Association today announced that the United States Men’s National University Team will train in Boston, December 26-29, ahead of the 2017 Winter World University Games from Jan. 29-Feb. 8, 2017, in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The U.S. team will be comprised of players from collegiate ice hockey teams affiliated with the ACHA, and will represent USA Hockey for the ninth consecutive time.
The camp, held at the Babson Skating Center on the campus of Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., will include three exhibition games before finalizing the roster.
The camp roster is highlighted by four players from the 2015 U.S. Men’s National University Team: Joe Olen (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./University of Illinois); Joey Breslin (Centerville, Ohio/Ohio University); Nicholas Zern (Auburn, Ind./Minot State University); and forward Sean Murphy (Cary, N.C./Arizona State University).
Sean Hogan (White Lake, Mich.), head coach of the men’s ice hockey team at Ohio University, will make his debut as head coach after serving as an assistant coach in 2013 and 2015. Rick Zombo (Wildwood, Mo.), head coach of the men’s ice hockey team at Lindenwood University and Nick Fabbrini (Champaign, Ill.), head coach of the men’s ice hockey team at the University of Illinois, will serve as assistant coaches.
The first exhibition game will be against NCAA Division I College of the Holy Cross at the New England Sports Center on December 27 at 7 p.m. Games No. 2 and 3 will be played against an all-star team from the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) at Rodman Arena in Walpole, Mass. Game No.2 will take place on December 28 at 8:30 p.m. Game No. 3 will follow on December 29 at 2:30 p.m.
