PCA-Chicago Awards Vipers Hockey with 2017 Honor the Game Award

By Laurie Gatto

Each year PCA-Chicago gives out the Honor the Game award to a team or organizational representative based in the Chicagoland area that exemplifies the PCA principle of Honoring the Game. Traditionally, this award has been presented to professional teams for their efforts to better the community with their work off the field, in addition to their on-field accomplishments.

Because of the efforts of Vipers Hockey in their work with Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association and Feed My Starving Children, as well as the familial culture created and maintained with the commitment to our PCA partnership and the ROOTS of Honoring the Game, this year the award was presented to the Vipers!

In recent years, PCA has been looking for a local partner to receive this honor. Not until this year did they find an organization that met their criteria. Over the past several years, the Vipers have been exemplary in their efforts, which makes them the first local PCA-Chicago partnership to take home this award.

Past honor the game award recipients have included:

  • Chicago Sky
  • Jackie Robinson West Little League (athletes, not coaches or parents)
  • Mark Murphy- President ( Green Bay Packers )
  • Stan Bowman (GM- Chicago Blackhawks)
