By Don Allord, AHAI Foundation Golf Outing Co-Chairman
The 21st Annual Foundation Golf Outing was once again a huge success both with weather and support. We raised more money for the Foundation disciplines than ever before. These disciplines include the Chicago Blackhawks Special Hockey and Chicago Blackhawks Blind Hockey Programs, Hockey Is For Everyone, the Hearing Impaired Hockey Program, the Hornets Youth Sled Hockey program, the IHOA Memorial Fund, the Chicago Blackhawks Warriors and the Catastrophic Relief Fund for players who have been catastrophically injured playing the sport we all love.
A huge thank you to all who participated, those who come back year after year, and who donated prizes and raffle items. We would like to especially thank the Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL) for continually supporting the Foundation Golf Outing in an overwhelming way.
We will be making some changes to next year’s event. This year we took on more golfers than the course could handle, 184 to be exact. While this was good for the disciplines we support and the kids who benefit from all our efforts, it strained the ability to get all golfers through the course in under 5 hours, into the banquet room on time, have dinner and announce the prizes. Again, thank you to all who endured these unusual circumstances.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the Ruffled Feathers staff for all they did to accommodate our large crowd and for the amazing dinner they provided for us. Additionally, I would like to recognize the Golf Outing Committee for their help in providing some amazing prizes. Look for next year’s event to be extra special.
In 2018 we will be moving the venue to a more central location and plan to have an earlier start time as well as set a limit on the number of foursomes to only what the course can handle. We hope these changes will get make the AHAI Foundation Golf Outing even more fun…so mark your calendars now for August 17, 2018!
