Metro Girls Hockey Action Underway
The Metro Girls High School season kicked off on September 29 and we are off and running with lots of hockey action! All of the games so far have been very competitive as the teams come together for the new season. Check out some action shots from the recent Fenwick versus Glenbrook game!
Our girls’ teams are very active in the community spreading love of the sport and supporting local charities. On October 7, the New Trier Girls teams joined forces with the boys’ program to support New Trier Hockey’s annual fundraiser, Bear Necessities. The joint charity collection supports the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. As in prior years, the girls and boys collected donations at various locations throughout the local township.
Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation was founded in late 1992 by Kathleen A. Casey, in memory of her eight-year-old son, Barrett “Bear” Krupa, who died after a courageous five and a half year battle with Wilms Tumor, a pediatric cancer. Donations are used to support the many hidden needs of both patient, family members, and the needs of the hospital facilities as well. New Trier proudly supports this organization by collecting donations each year.
The Lake Forest High School Scouts have started out the season with a variety of team building activities, in addition to their on ice practices. They competed in the Superhero Obstacle Course 5K in Winnetka, the Make a Wish Foundation pumpkin carving at the Highwood Pumpkin Fest and they participated with the Falcons 14U team to honor Gina Bronge at the 10th annual Gina Bronge Memorial Hockey Game on October 8th. The Gina Bronge Foundation grants hockey scholarships to female athletes who exemplify a love of hockey, leadership and dedication.
National Honor Society Honors
Congratulations are in order to Ava Gawley, Fenwick High School senior on her induction in the National Honor Society! This is Ava’s fourth year playing in the Metro League. Way to go Ava!
Help Support Megan Bozek!
Megan Bozek is thrilled to be representing the United States this February in Korea! A t-shirt fundraiser is underway to help support the family’s effort to join her in Korea. The shirts are $20 and come in a variety of sizes. The top seller will have a practice skate with Megan Bozek, and the top three sellers will receive other prizes. What a great way to support our local Illinois Olympian! In her youth hockey career Megan played for Glenview, Team Illinois, Mission and Glenbrook High School.
