We are about midway through the tiering round of the Metro Girls High School season and all the girls’ teams are playing hard to secure a spot in the Scholastic or Founders division. New Trier Varsity is currently in first place with an undefeated 6-0 record. Glenbrook South High School is currently in the second spot at 5-2-1, followed by Loyola Academy at 4-2 and Lake Forest at 4-1. The competition among the teams has been fierce but friendly!
Barrington Girls Help Host Event to Remember One of their Own. On Saturday, December 23, 2017, the Barrington Girls Ice hockey team will join forces with the Give Bonnie Strong 77 Foundation and Yellow Jacket’s Girls’ Hockey to welcome all girl skaters for “Bonnie’s Skate for a Cure,” the 4th Annual Memorial All Girls Skate to help fight pediatric cancer.
The Foundation was established in honor of Bonnie Vonder Haar, a courageous 12 year old hockey player who taught us how to live, how to fight, and how to stay strong during her battle with leukemia in 2014.
The event will be held from 9-11 a.m. at the Crystal Ice House in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Admission to the event is $30 per skater and $5 for spectators. To learn more about Bonnie and to register for the skate, please visit www.givebonniestrong77.org. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House, a special place that provided Bonnie and her family a home away from home during her battle with leukemia. Proceeds from the event will be donated to local families that have a child fighting pediatric cancer as well as to help fund medical research to combat this terrible disease.
Keep up the good work ladies!
Chloe Carroll from the Glenbrook team represented the Girls’ High School Metro League at the Chicago Blackhawks first Captain’s Spotlight of the season on October 12, 2017. Chloe and three captains from boys’ high school teams received tickets, a tour before the game, and were able to meet Coach Joel Quenneville.
Chloe is a senior at Glenbrook North, and has been playing for Glenbrook since she was a freshman. The Blackhawks will be hosting four more of the Metro Girls’ captains on future dates.
Congratulations are in order for Madison Itagaki for signing her letter of intent to play college hockey with RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology)! Madison is a senior at Glenbrook South and plays high school hockey with the Glenbrook Girls team. Way to go Madison!
Stay tuned for more news on the Metro Girls league!
