The 10th Annual Pink in the Rink event was an amazing success. Breaking the previous total raised of $23,200, the event raised an amazing $49,782.63 this year. The event was highlighted by a top-ten U19 matchup between No. 1 Shattuck Saint Mary’s and No. 8 Chicago Mission where Shattuck came out with the 2-1 victory. The Mission Girls Program finished with 3 great wins on the day, the U12, U14 and U16 teams defeated their respective opponents.

Although the games were a great success, the focus was on cancer awareness and raising money for the American Cancer Society. Nicole LaMantia, U19 Captain and event chairperson said this about the event’s success, “I could not be prouder of the total we raised as a Mission Girls program. From the U12’s to the U19’s, I am extremely proud of everyone and their efforts this year. This event is a success because of everyone involved and it truly is something special for the girls to put together.”

LaMantia said that in the past 10 years the Pink in the Rink event has raised over $300,000 for the American Cancer Society. She went on to say, “The Chicago Mission Girls Program has been built on not only great athletes but great people. Giving back is something far more important than hockey. This event provides the Mission Girls an opportunity to be involved in the community. Pink in the Rink is truly a special event for us. On behalf of the Mission Girls, we would like to thank the volunteers, fundraisers, corporate sponsors, event organizers, MB Ice Arena staff, and the Mission families – your contributions and efforts were greatly appreciated.” LaMantia also extended a special thank you to the Team Illinois Girls U12 Team for raising $10,000 and contributing to their amazing total for Pink in the Rink.
