Illinois West Update: Inaugural Carillon Cup, Chance to Win Hawks Tickets & More

By Brian Meek

Illinois West High School League has started our season, and all 29 teams are off and running. The teams, as always, try to feel each other out early in the season. As expected, it looks like the season will include tight races in both the Varsity and Junior Varsity brackets. Check out the updated standings and keep up with your favorite players at: www.illinoiswesthockey.com. As the holidays approach, several of our clubs participate in various activities to provide holiday cheer to the less fortunate. Additionally, clubs have fund raising activities during the season to help offset the growing cost of the programs. We will highlight those activities in this column.

INAUGURAL CARILLON CUP

Initiated by Varsity Head Coach Bill Driscoll of the Naperville North Huskies, the Carillon Cup High School Hockey Tournament will take place at All Seasons Ice Arena in Aurora, Ill., on Thursday, November 15th and Tuesday, November 20th. This inaugural tournament is modeled after the Beanpot in Boston (annual hockey event since 1952, highlighting four major college hockey schools) and will feature DuPage Valley high school hockey teams within the School Districts of 203 and 204: Warriors (Waubonsie and Metea Valley), Neuqua Valley, Naperville Central and Naperville North.

The Carillon Cup is named to honor the Naperville Millennium Carillon, (Moser Tower), and as such, the trophy will reflect the architecture of the notable tower located in downtown Naperville. The premise of this tournament is to promote high school hockey in Naperville / Aurora, and to optimize school rivalries among hockey players young and old. Follow us on Twitter for updates on the tournament @CarillonCup.
