Aurora University Men’s Hockey to Host Second Annual Teddy Bear Toss

By Aurora University Athletics

With the holiday season quickly approaching, the Aurora University men’s hockey program has scheduled the second annual Toys for Tots “Teddy Bear Toss” event during an upcoming home contest.

The AU men is holding their teddy bear toss game on Friday, December 7 when the Spartans welcome Lake Forest College to the Fox Valley Ice Arena for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop. Additionally, a Toys for Tots collection box for a toy drive will be located at the main entrance to the rink. Those wishing to donate a toy, please bring a packaged toy and place it in the collection box. Everyone who mentions “AHAI” at the door and brings a Teddy Bear to the game will get in FREE!

During the 2017 Teddy toss game, 109 teddy bears were collected and donated to a local charity.

A “teddy bear toss” is popular in hockey this time of year to provide stuffed animals to children that come from less fortunate backgrounds. Fans are encouraged to bring their own teddy bears to the game and throw them on the ice after AU scores the first goal. All bears/stuffed animals will be donated and given to children in need this Christmas season.

Example of how the Teddy Bear Toss works for those Spartans fans who are new to this longtime hockey tradition.
