Barrington Girls Helped Host Event to Remember One of their Own.
On Saturday, December 22, 2018, the Barrington Girls Ice hockey team joined forces with the Give Bonnie Strong 77 Foundation and Yellow Jacket’s Girls Hockey to welcome all girl skaters for “Bonnie’s Skate for a Cure,” the 4th Annual Memorial All Girls Skate to help fight pediatric cancer.
The Foundation was established in honor of Bonnie Vonder Haar, a courageous 12 year old hockey player who taught us how to live, how to fight, and how to stay strong during her battle with leukemia in 2014.
Participants brought a new, unwrapped toy that was donated to the Ronald McDonald House, a special place that provided Bonnie and her family a home away from home during her battle with leukemia. Proceeds from the event were donated to local families that have a child fighting pediatric cancer as well as to help fund medical research to combat this terrible disease. Keep up all the good work ladies!

Blackhawks Captains Spotlight
By Lena Flores, Fenwick – I was really honored to be invited to the Blackhawks Captain Spotlight Dinner with Jamal Myers and Spencer Montgomery! Being there with the other captains gave me a better understanding of how much the Blackhawks do for the hockey community. We got to stay to watch the Hawks beat the Penguins 6-3!
I was very happy to share this experience with friends and family and I appreciate all the Blackhawks organization does for young players.

Sisters Meet to Face Off, On the Ice and On the Bench
Two pairs of sisters active in the Metro League faced off against each other recently in some friendly (sort of) competition!
In the first-ever Latin Orange vs Latin Blue game, sisters Margot Williams, Captain of Latin Orange (class of 2019) and her little sister Charlie Williams (Class of 2022) met on the ice. The game was held on November 7th and the Orange team beat the Blue team 7-0.
In addition, the Zorn sisters faced each other – on the bench – as Latin Orange played Lake Forest High School. Anna Zorn coaches for Latin and Liz Zorn for Lake Forest. The game that was held on November 26 and the Romans beat the Scouts 4-1.
Teammates from Youth Hockey Meet on the Ice in the Metro League
One of the most fun aspects of playing high school hockey is facing off against girls that play with you on another team. Recently, Gina Magro (Barrington) played against Sara Martino (Rebels) – they both play on the Team Illinois U19 team.
Another evening Gina met on the ice against two other girls playing for New Trier, Serena Sieple (also plays for Team Illinois) and Julia Laden (also plays for CYA).
Malone Buinaskas (Fenwick Class of 2016) recently attended the Army-Navy game and met up with two Fenwick grads and members of the men’s ice hockey team, Casey McCormick and Trent Leslie while at the game! All three former high school players attend the Naval Academy.
The game was held on December 8 and the Army Black Nights defeated the Navy Midshipmen 17-10.
