Both NTDP Teams Return to International Play at Five Nations Tournaments

U18s travel to Russia; U17s head to Sweden for final international event of season


PLYMOUTH, Mich. — The U.S. National Under-17 and Under-18 Teams are set to compete in their first international events of the 2019 calendar year at their respective 2019 Five Nations Tournaments.

U.S. National Under-17 Team
The U.S. National Under 17 is slated to face Finland, Russia, the Czech Republic and Sweden in its Five Nations Tournament. Team USA begins the tournament against Finland at 9:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday before it faces Russia at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and the Czech Republic at noon Friday. The U17s close out their international slate with a 6 a.m. Sunday matchup against host Sweden.

The NTDP’s 2002 birth-year group will look to further its success in international play after the U17s earned a second-place finish at the 2018 Four Nations Cup in December in Plymouth, Michigan. The U.S. National Under-17 Team also collected one win at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in November in New Brunswick, Canada.

The 2019 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament marks the final international competition of the season for the U17s.

U.S. National Under-18 Team
The U18s, which includes Illinois’ Cameron Rowe (Wilmette), Owen Lindmark (Naperville), Alex Turcotte (Island Lake) and Alex Vlasic (Wilmette) will take the ice from Feb. 5-9 at the Iceberg Skating Palace in Sochi, Russia in its last international contest before competing in the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Men’s World Championship in April.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team is scheduled to face Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and Russia in the 2019 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament. Team USA opens play against Sweden at 7 a.m. ET on Wednesday before it faces Finland at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and the Czech Republic at 7 a.m. Friday. The U18s close out the tournament against host Russia at 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

The NTDP’s 2001 birth-year group aims to continue its undefeated record on the international stage after the current group of U18s finished first at the Fall Under-18 Five Nations Cup, Under-17 Five Nations, Under-17 Four Nations and the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
