Elder Jackets Capture 2019 USA Hockey National Championship Title

Wesley Chapel, Florida, April 14, 2019 – The Elder Jackets, a group of men who are associated with the Yellow Jackets Hockey Club based in Crystal Lake, Illinois, won five straight games to win the 2019 USA Hockey Adult Hockey Program National Tournament in Wesley Chapel, Florida. The Elder Jackets participated in the 50+ Tier IV division.

Lance Lhotka, General Manager and Team Captain said, “winning is a by-product of working hard and having fun, just as we teach our kids when they play.”

The Elder Jackets defeated the Lancaster Grey Pucks, Space Coast Old Hurricanes (overtime), and the MGCH Old Pucks in pool play. The semifinal game saw the Elder Jackets beat Four Green Fields. The Championship game was a rematch with Space Coast Old Hurricanes. The Elder Jackets employed smothering defense, balanced scoring, and strong goaltending by Rob Schaid, who secured his second shutout of the tournament, on the way to a 5-0 win to capture the 2019 National Championship.

The Elder Jackets team members include Marc Belanski, Jeff Bruns, Brad Graham, Brian Harrington, Peter Henke, Paul Hooper, Lance Lhotka, Larry Lhotka, David Lichterman, Steve Maloney, Curt Michols, Mark Musich, Brian O’Conner, Rob Schaid, Bruce Smolen, Keith “Casey” Vandamme, Don Vanderweil, and Neal Zupec.
