Ross Forman’s High School Season-Opening Top 25

By Ross Forman

New Trier Green is right where it left off last season: The Trevians are the season-opening No. 1-ranked team in the Illinois.

Green won the Illinois High School Hockey State Championship (Red Division) this past March and the Trevians cruised to the championship earlier this month in the annual Pre-Season Invitational in Glen Ellyn, hosted by Wheaton West.

“It’s nice to be recognized (as) one of the top teams preseason, but (it’s) more important to be No. 1 at the end of the year,” said Green head coach Bob Melton.

The Trevians went undefeated in the Wheaton West tourney, defeating Carmel Catholic for the title. They followed that with a 6-3 home win over perennial power Providence Catholic, then wins over Benet Academy and the Hawks.

Green is 8-0 and led offensively by Charlie Acri (3 goals, 10 assists) and Danny Budington (7 goals, 4 assists).
