By Ross Forman – York is skating directly toward a state championship, with a mighty 23-2-2 overall record. And both setbacks have been 1-goal losses.
The Dukes also have 6 shutouts.
“The key so far has been our ability to get to the puck first and our aggressive forecheck that keeps constant pressure on the other team in their defensive zone,” said Brendan Quinn, 15, a right-handed shooting defenseman.
“We really gel as a team; we pass well and have a lot of unselfish players. Our coaches are extremely motivational and bring out the best in us each and every time we step on the ice.”
York has had a 12-game winning streak and was a perfect 10-0 in October.
They have 12 Scholastic Hockey League victories, with their 2 setbacks coming in overtime. They also lead the league in both goals scored and have surrendered the fewest goals against.
Bob Plummer and Eli Maurer are tied for the team-lead with 15 points in Scholastic League play.
Quinn, who lives in Elmhurst and wears uniform No. 37, has 1 goal, 3 assists in 14 league games.
“My personal goals for this season are to have more than 20 points and to lead my team to a state championship,” said Quinn, who previously played for the Elmhurst Chiefs and Chicago Blues.
