Hayes-Suburban Division’s November Update

By Rob Ince

As the season rolls forward, the Hayes-Suburban Division is excited to share how several of our clubs are giving back to the community through fundraising efforts and charitable service work. At a time when we hear so much negative, it is refreshing to give a shout out to our players that give back to the community. Hayes-Suburban is also excited to share a new monthly honor to recognize the standout skater and goalie from each tier within the division that work so hard on the ice to elevate their game.

Oswego Hockey Club hosts Pink in the Rink – Rallying for a cure one goal at a time

Oswego Hockey Club parents have been contributing one goal donations during each game throughout October to help support Valencee Avalos, an Oswego community member who is battling brain, breast, lung, liver and bone cancer. Friday October 13, that enthusiasm spread to the opposing team, Mid-Valley Rampage, in which donations became very generous for a 2-1 game.

JV Head Coach, Joe Hartge, started what he thought would be a small cancer awareness activity for the team, but has seen the excitement for helping others grow throughout the hockey community. Fans are cheering on both teams as donations pour in whenever a goal is scored.

Then, on Saturday November 16, Oswego hosted a game against Chicago South with both clubs honoring Valencee on the ice. Prior to the game, Valencee was presented with an Oswego hockey jersey which she wore when she dropped the first puck along with her son. The club presented her with a check for $1,500 that was raised through the efforts of the Oswego Hockey Club throughout the season.

Fresh Concepts donated the jersey that includes several ribbons symbolizing different types of cancer. Cancer affects more than a million people every year and the parents of Oswego Hockey Club are committed to helping, one goal at a time. Oswego Hockey Club also received donations from the Aurora Police Benevolent & Protective Association and matching funds from Train Insane Hockey Training.

Mid-Valley Rampage pays tribute to wounded warrior with Fox Valley Hawks

On November 4, Mid-Valley Rampage and Fox Valley Hawks played a scrimmage game to honor Sergeant First Class Mark Peifer for the Veterans Day holiday.  The clubs also honored Stacie Olson, whose son Tyler plays defense for Mid-Valley and Len Layer whose grandson Michael plays forward for Mid-Valley.

JCA Hockey volunteers for Feed My Starving Children

On November 23, the players, parents and coaches from JCA Hockey volunteered at Feed My Starving Children in Schaumburg. Over 90 minutes, the team was able to help pack 165 boxes, prepare 35,640 meals and feed 97 kids for an entire year. The club also made a monetary donation while all involved worked diligently to help so many.

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization that feeds children in more than 70 countries throughout the world.
