Patti McDonnell, Neuqua Valley Hockey Club Community Services Coordinator
On Saturday, November 23 and Tuesday, December 3, four hockey clubs came together at the Naperville Walmart to pay it forward. Neuqua Valley, Naperville Central, the Warriors, and Naperville North players joined together to make the holidays brighter for families in need.
The groups shopped in support of Lambs Fold/Trinity Services, a shelter for homeless and abused women and children. The shelter provides community-based supportive housing, personalized recovery services, and assistance to achieve self sufficiency.
Last year, Neuqua took on the charity alone and were able to sponsor nearly a dozen kids. This year, nearly 100 players and about 30 parents sponsored 32 kids and 10 moms providing clothing, shoes, diapers, toys, and household items.
In the midst of competing for the local Carillon Cup tournament championship, this joint effort clearly showed that even the fiercest competitors on the ice could work together as friends for the greater good of the community.
