By Ross Forman – Having played for the Mount Prospect Patriots and the Glenview Grizzles, freshman Max Janczak was, admittedly, a little timid when his season started on the co-op BG/H/W JV team.
The nerves went away quickly.
“I have great teammates, coaches and I’m part of a great organization. This is, by far, the most fun I’ve had playing hockey,” said Janczak, 14, who lives in Mount Prospect and attends Hersey High School, one of the team’s three schools, along with Buffalo Grove and Wheeling.
“A personal goal I have for the season is to contribute my best efforts to support the team and make a run for a state title.”
With the No. 4 seed in the JV Combined Division, BG/H/W opens its run in the Illinois High School State Tournament on Monday, March 2 in Bensenville. The Stampede face the winner of Waubonsie/McLean County.
“I am a hard-working (player) who can produce for my team every game. I believe I can do the dirty work and win board battles while also being able to create scoring chances and making plays all over the ice,” he said.
Janczak played last season for the Glenview Grizzlies. He is a left-handed shooting forward in jersey No. 94.
“The team is having a great year, (heading into the) state tournament with a record of 31-16-3,” Janczak said. “In North-Central Division play, we (were) inconsistent, finishing a little over .500. However, we grew as a team as the season progressed.”
