Now Is a Great Time to Get Your Credentials Done

By Laura Johnson, AHAI Registrar

With government restrictions in place, we are finding ourselves with extra time. What a great opportunity to catch up on completing your required USA Hockey credentials. When restrictions are lifted, and life goes back to normal, our activities will rapidly ramp up, we will all find ourselves scrambling to get long overdue tasks completed.

First, you will need to register for the 2020/21 season by going to the USA Hockey Website: https://membership.usahockey.com/. As part of the registration, you will acknowledge the USA Hockey Waiver of Liability and the Concussion and SafeSport acknowledgements.

The 2020/21 USA Hockey Registration is valid until August 31, 2021.

SafeSport Requirements

All adults on a youth or HS roster must complete the SafeSport Training Program to participate with a team in any activity, on or off the ice.

Organization Board members are also required to register with USA Hockey as a Volunteer (it is free) and complete the training.

All players born in 2003 or earlier must complete SafeSport Training to be added to a youth or HS Roster. Remember those procrastinators from last year? Don’t let that happen again. Please reach out to your players and encourage them to complete their SafeSport Training now.

The SafeSport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for one (1) season beginning on 4/1/20.

As of January 1, 2018, all relevant individuals who need to be SafeSport certified or are seeking recertification will need to complete the new SafeSport training, which features updated content.

Once you have completed the Core SafeSport Course, there will be a Refresher Course available for individuals who have previously completed the core SafeSport course and need to recertify. Users completing the SafeSport refresher course will be certified for an additional season.

PLEASE NOTE that you will need your own USA Hockey Confirmation Number or Referee Number and your own email address to access the training.  You can locate your number OR obtain a number on membership.usahockey.com.  If you will not be participating as a player, coach or referee, you can register at no cost under the ice manager/volunteer category to obtain your USA Hockey Confirmation Number.

If a member has not completed SafeSport training, they will be “greyed out” and cannot be added to the team’s roster. Until this requirement is completed, they cannot participate with a team on or off the ice. Information about the USA Hockey SafeSport Program can be found at https://www.usahockey.com/safesportprogram.

The program is free of charge and what better time than NOW for coaches and players to get this done?

Online Age-Specific Coaching Modules

Now is also a great time for coaches to complete their Age-Specific Modules. The modules are currently available on the USAH Website https://www.usahockey.com/agespecificmodules.

Coaches must complete each age-specific module PRIOR to participating with their team or being placed on a roster. Coaches must be current members of USA Hockey in order to register for the modules. Registration for the 2020/21 season is now open. By using the link above, you can register for a module or login to the module site to continue a previously registered module or access your account to review any previously completed modules. You can register for only ONE module at a time. You must complete the module in its entirety before you can move on to another one.

Please stay well, stay safe and for now, and please stay home. If you have questions about SafeSport or Age Specific Module requirements or how to access the programs, please do not hesitate to contact me, Laura Johnson, AHAI Registrar, at 224-636-3233 or registrar@ahai2.org.
