Multi-Sport Athlete Kevin Parham Brings ‘Competitive Drive’ to the Co-Op North Stars

By Ross Forman – It’s no coincidence that junior Kevin Parham, a 2-year varsity goalie for co-op North Stars Hockey Club, sports uniform No. 33: his all-time favorite goalie is Patrick Roy.

Roy was, arguably, the greatest goaltender in NHL history, a 2006 inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame. And Roy’s number 33 jersey is retired by both the Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche.

“My style of play is agile and quick on the ice. I excel in scramble situations and in up close situations,” said Parham, 16, who lives in Chicago and attends Nazareth Academy. The North Stars are a mix of players from Nazareth, Riverside-Brookfield, IC Catholic Prep and St. Laurence.

Parham played his youth hockey for the Hawks and the Bruins – and he credits his parents for the “huge role” they have played in his career. “They supported me in all of my triumphs and faults on the ice,” he said.

Such as, winning a tournament championship with his Bruins team before joining the high school ranks.

“I bring a competitive drive and being a humble and respectable player on the ice,” he said.

Parham is still undecided on his college plans, but he wants to stay in the Midwest and, hopefully, continue to play hockey.

“In 10 years, I will tell my friends that this season was both one of perseverance and adversity,” said Parham, who also participated in cross-country and lacrosse.
